New discovery in behavior of common viruses

The Epstein-Barr virus and closely related herpes viruses are able to survive a long time in the human body by avoiding attacks from our immune system.  Scientists have recently discovered that it contains a bacteriophage-like "chain mail" to protect itself from attack. This discovery should eventually lead to new drugs to combat these common viruses.
